Longevity Alert: As America Ages, Long-Term Care Costs Could Overwhelm Most Families, say Les Robinson CLTC

We need to gear up for the burgeoning care needs of an aging population; working Americans will bear the brunt of the costs and obligations

The number of Americans age 65 and older is on track to double — from 46 million now to over 98 million in 2060, when today’s 20-somethings will be turning 65. At that time the 65-plus age group’s share of the population will have jumped to 24-percent from 15-percent today. “Think of it,” says Les…

Shopping for Long-Term Care Insurance Can Be a Big Fat Pain!

A New Jersey friend of mine (I’ll call her Eileen), was in the market for long-term care insurance. I say “was” because the process of shopping for it turned her stone cold, and now she’s on hold.

After hours of research, “I couldn’t find anything to buy, no actual policies,” she complained, “nothing but general reviews and comparisons. No real details.”

“It was maddening!” she continued. “I buy lots of stuff and can always find…

A cancer diagnosis is life changing, not only for the patient, but for their entire family and loved ones.  Cancer involves abnormal cellular growth that can manifest as a tumor which can spread throughout the body.  Cancer can affect many parts of the body and while genetics may play a role in those at risk, the disease is largely considered environmental.  There are two types of tumors-benign and malignant.  The former is not cancerous and not at risk of spreading.  These once removed…

Three Short-Term Benefits of Long-Term Care Insurance -- Surprisingly Bullish

Millions of successful Americans neglect a simple safeguard to their wealth and dreams: long-term care insurance.

Why?

"They just don't want to think about it," says one industry observer. "It's a psychological downer.  Bullish people recoil at thoughts of ever needing help with tasks of daily living. Things like moving around, eating, or toileting. So they put it out of mind."

A way around this block is to focus on the…

Keeping families whole and intact

The data is undeniable about the many long term care (LTC) risks facing our aging American population. But data alone is not why families decide to purchase LTC protection. Families purchase LTC protection because this is what leaders do: secure leverage to pay for potentially unwelcome consequences in order to keep their family intact. LTC insurance provides significant leverage in times of need. LTC insurance policies save relationships and keep families whole.

LTC + Medicare = additional revenue or does it?

Many brokers in the LTC world run across daily those LTC clients where either the policy holder and or the spouse are Medicare eligible OR are aging into Medicare in 6 months.  Unfortunately, in my conversations with others this opportunity to gain additional revenue from Medicare sales goes untapped or tossed to a buddy.

Trying to poll the Guild members as to how many take advantage of this LTC + Medicare revenue opportunity versus ignoring or passing the lead…
